Officer Marcus Montgomery was just doing his job when showed up at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society to handle a situation with an employee. Little did he know at the time, that he would be leaving with a new puppy.
Montgomery was on his way out of the Shelter when he noticed a small puppy in a shelter employee’s hands. To say that it was love at first sight, would be correct. Montgomery recalled, “I immediately saw the connection, but I was at first apprehensive due to me and my girlfriend’s schedule. I figured it was going to be difficult to give him the proper care he deserves.” Marcus then spoke with the staff to see what would be involved if he adopted the puppy.
The Puppy Goes Home With His New Dad
“After speaking with the staff, they educated me on what he would need and that he would actually be OK by himself, as long as it wasn’t for an exorbitant amount of time. So I went home and talked with my girlfriend and she immediately fell in love with him once she held him,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery decided to add the puppy to his family. He and his girlfriend already had a pit bull rescue named Vader. They decided to stick with the Star Wars theme when naming their new addition. “Since I got to name Vader, I wanted my girlfriend to name the newest addition. Because we already had Vader, she decided on Kylo, or Kylo Ren due to the Star Wars connection,” Montgomery said.
Vader and Kylo get along great, but Montgomery is careful to watch that the puppy doesn’t annoy Vader. “They play around but I usually stay close because Kylo is still in the teething stage and I don’t want him latching onto Vader,” he said.
You just never know when you will meet your next furry family member. Montgomery was just doing his job but instead fell in love with Kylo. This was truly a perfect timing situation.
