Every animal and every person truly is unique and perfectly made. But the world may not see an animal as perfect if it has what might be called an imperfection or disability. For one labrador puppy born deaf, that imperfection was keeping him from being adopted. But when one man who was also deaf met the pup, there was an instant connection.
The black Labrador puppy is named Emerson. He was the last one remaining in his litter at a North Florida Rescue in Maine that was not adopted. The reason being most likely is that Emerson was born deaf. People are often afraid to take on a dog that is deaf. But surprisingly deaf dogs aren’t much different than dogs that can hear. They simply need to communicate in a different manner.
As Emerson was waiting for his forever family, the rescue put up a sad plea. “He is left wondering why no one wants to give him a forever home,” the rescue wrote. They went on to say, “He wants everyone to know that even though he may be deaf, he is still an AMAZING little pup with SOO much love to give!”
It didn’t take long for a man named Nick Abbot to come in and meet Emerson. The two had an instant connection. Nick is also deaf so he understood the pup more than most.
Nick Connected To Emerson Right Away
“I was drawn to him right away because we have similarities,” Nick said. “I felt like because I know what it’s like to be deaf, I could understand him.”
At first, Nick was afraid to adopt Emerson because he already had a 7-year-old Labrador at home. He wasn’t sure that he was ready to be a 2-dog family. But Nick couldn’t get Emerson out of his mind.
“I decided I should at least go meet him and see. I walked in and he came right to me and sat on my foot. It was like he already knew me… That’s the moment that I knew,” Nick said.
Now the two have bonded even closer. Nick is even teaching Emerson commands in sign language. Emerson and Nick both scored big time in finding each other. Check out the following video about this dynamic duo.
