Sadly, domestic abuse is not uncommon in this day and age. A woman, who wants to stay anonymous, courageously tells her story of abuse. Luckily for this woman her dog stepped up in hopes of saving her life.
After months of abuse, one day the situation became deadly. The woman’s abuser began to hit her with a hammer. When the woman cried for help, her dog, Hank ran to her. She explains, “When my Great Dane, Hank, heard me scream, he laid on top of me. I tried to get him out of the way, but he received the first of many blows from my abuser.”
After getting away for a bit, the woman rushed to her beloved dog. Then her abuser brought out a gun. The woman tells,
“I ran to him but was told if I touched him, he would shoot him. I didn’t know whether to believe him or not and I didn’t want to push it.”
Later in the fight, the attacker threw Hank out the window, leaving him with many injuries. Sadly, Hank had a broken hip and broken ribs. The woman had the courage to leave and grab Hank She drove to the police station. Soon the police showed up and arrested the abuser.
Fortunately, the woman was placed in a shelter for women and children. Sadly, Hank had to go elsewhere. Hank was then sent to the Rose Brooks Center. After, the CEO, Susan Miller, tells,
“I’m so glad we did. It was just inspiring to see how she was able to heal better with her pet here.”
Later, Hank received the Valor Dog of the Year and People’s Hero award. His bravery is truly unmatched.
