If you are reading this, chances are that you love animals. But how far would you go to save animals’ lives? One man is risking his own life, in a war-torn country, to feed and care for cats that were left behind by their families.
The largest city in Syria, Aleppo, has been devastated by war and destruction. As groups fight to gain control of the city, pets are abandoned as families flee for safer places to dwell. Cats especially have been left to fend for themselves. Without someone stepping in to care for them, many would die of starvation. There are simply too many with nowhere to go to find food. Thanks to Mohammad Alaa Aljalee, over 200 of these abandoned cats are alive and well today.
Mohammad founded a sanctuary known as Il Gattaro d’Aleppo. Mohammad welcomes both cats and also dogs into the sanctuary. No longer will they have to suffer and starve on the streets when Mohammad takes them into his loving care.
Mohammad Vows To Stay And Care For The Cats “No Matter What”
Cats and dogs are not the only living beings that Mohammad helps. Mohammad also helps people in need. He feels that a caring individual should have mercy for both people and animals alike. “I’ll stay with them no matter what happens,” Mohammad said. “Someone who has mercy in their heart for people has mercy for every living thing.”
Mohammad is known as “the cat man of Aleppo” for the care that he has provided to so many cats. He has gone above and beyond what most people would do to help animals in need. By staying where he is, Mohammad is risking his own life to care for innocent animals. He is truly a hero.
