During an Alabama man’s walk to work, he noticed something moving under a tree. Of course, being in the woods he had no clue what was hiding underneath the branch, but he looked anyway. There sat six adorable puppies in desperate need of help. This man recognized this and rushed them to the veterinarian hospital.
After finally arriving at an animal hospital in Sylacauga, Alabama, the puppies were treated. The poor pups had open wounds and weighed less than five pounds each from malnutrition. The veterinarian was grateful for the Alabama man’s act of kindness. There was no knowing how long those puppies sat outside for.
Once they were in treatment, Auburn University students helped them. Nicole Zaguroli of Second City Canine Rescue (SCCR) in Chicago, Illinois comments,
“They were so smelly that the shelter staff had to wear masks in order to bathe them. The puppies were in very bad condition; they had scabies, they were malnourished and cold.”
Since the dogs stayed small for so long, their foster family thought they would be a poodle. Once the adorable pups began to get better they got really big. So their foster families had to change their guesses.
After one of the mystery pups got adopted, the family decided to do DNA testing. It turns out the puppies found in the woods were Great Pyrenees. Great Pyrenees are known for being very large dogs. Also, they are used universally to protect livestock. Often this breed of dog is sold for thousands of dollars, making them very valuable.
The photo below displays one of the Great Pyrenees with his new family. His name is bear. Clearly, he is eating well, and growing quite fast.
